iMosse is now the Mosse

Long-time readers will probably know that I redesign my entire website every now and then. The last iteration (the green wargame-theme) lasted a great deal longer than any other version before it – but it was (IMO) a good one, and others told me so as well. My keen interest in webdesign means I constantly learn new tricks of the trade, and every time I do so I want to take advantage of my new knowledge, hence the constant redesigns.

imageThere is another reason for this lateral move, however. Lately I've grown increasingly tired of the webhotel for imosse.net. The website would go down a great lot more than it was supposed to – and not only the hotel, but the domain as well, meaning I sometimes couldn't reach my email even… Sometimes they would take several days to reply to my messages – if at all. I still have some pending issues. The last problem, which is – in a way, both good and bad, was their billing. I've been a customer for (IIRC) five years, and have during that time received one bill – and even that I had to ask for repeatedly. Sure, I enjoy free webhosting as much as the next guy, but I'm a firm believer in “You get what you pay for“, and I'd rather pay for proper service than get sh*t for free.

The new service provider, Zoner seems more reliable by several horses' lengths. They had some previous experience dealing with my last (or then current) ISP and recommended getting a new domain, as getting the release codes for the current one could be a lengthy process (even though it is in my name…). Well, as I'm not as Mac-oriented anymore as I was when I got iMosse.net, changing it didn't hurt too bad – but coming up with a new, and creative domain-name isn't the easiest walk in the park.

The wargame-theme got a bit dated as well. I don't get to play as many wargames as I used to, or would like to. Maybe one day that will change – but this new theme is a bit more neutral and open to other areas. I'm an all-around geek, so tech interests me a great lot as well. You'll notice that I've added audioversions to some blog-entries. This, like most features on this blog, was just an experiment on my part. Both learning how to incorporate audio into a website, and how to produce, mix and clean up the audio itself, as well as compress it enough but not too much. I can't take credit for the idea of “speaking” your blog-entries either – I got the idea from LeVar Burton, who is a fantastic writer, an even better speaker (award-winning, even!) but just as lazy a blogger as me…

So this is the new me, tell me what you think about it. The cat in the corner, BTW, is Saga.
“iMosse is dead – long live theMosse”, or something…
