I’ve had the same thoughts about Facebook for quite a long time now. Ever since I myself joined the network in ca. 2003 I’ve seeen it evolve into something I really don’t like. Not only does the page have a knack for screwing up and changing the infrastructure just when you thought you got a hang of it (which, I’ll admit, has occacionally made the page easier and lighter), but the more pressing issue is the security and privacy factor you mentioned here.

I think the main problem here is that somewhere along the line Mr. Zuckerberg started suffering from some sort of messiah-complex, or perhaps more fittingly, DDR-complex, wanting to redefine (ie. abbolish) the concept of “privacy”. In the world of Mark Zuckerberg, there is no such thing as private information. But hey, who’s to blaim him; if you invent and practically own the world’s prime communication network, I guess it’s natural that you want to do some restructuring. And like all good businessmen, he knows that as long as the sheep (account users) follow, the shepperd (Facebook) can lead them anywhere he wants.

And as for leaving, well, like you said, it’s basically no choice at all, since the users, bound to their daily contacts, farms, updates and status surfings, are, in the end, the ones who loose (but yes, I do agree, it’s crossed even my mind).

I got tired of all the standard “save the universe every 15 pages” stories and wanted to write a book that explored what the lives of just regular people would be link in the 24th century if the Universe were developed by an airline instead of an air force.

The result is this series.

Being a lifelong eager friend of a proper sauna, and enjoying a good vodka occasionally (although I prefer a whisky) I had never paired them with “manly” either… I actually don’t remember my answer to that particular question, other than the fact that I had an involved but short inner battle whether or not to hang up on the infantile unprofessional sorry excuse for a journalist. I didn’t. Maybe I should have?

I believe, per definition, a woman who enjoyes a sauna to be refered to as “hot” and a friend of a good vodka “smooth”. ;-)

As an aside, I didn’t realize that sauna and vodka were “manly”. What does that make a woman who partakes of these things? ;)

And as for why RD/KA! was unknown to you? The web is vast and growing and we are but motes, like dust in sunlight. ;)

I’m glad you’ve found me again, though – give my thanks to Yehuda! Your blog seems very fun, I’ve added it to my RSS-reader – can’t believe I haven’t run across it before…

I’ve never been to any exhibition except the occacional annual boat exhibitions (Venemessut) but this year a small, but potent, idea crept into my brain: go to the DigiExpo. So after reading your post I checked their website and what do you know, today (1.11) was the last day of the Expo (I didn’t realize it was just a weekend show) and I’m at work! Darn it! :)

Anyway, since there are basically three exhibitions at Messukeskus simultaneously, the size of DigiExpo is probably much smaller in contrast to other exhibitions..? And how much of the scene is focused on presentation of new innovations and gimmicks vs. small items selling stands?
